INSIDER #018 – Brickstone

🐨 Welcome—grab a seat, pour yourself a cuppa and enjoy Issue #018. Meet Brickstone house, journey through Ipswich’s former fun favourites, and scroll right to the bottom of this email for a weekend packed with events. Jump in:

🧱 Meet Brickstone: Georgian Brick Villa with a Once Hidden Attic

  • Survivor. Of three brick houses William Hancock raised side-by-side, Brickstone alone keeps its original face and earned State Heritage listing in 1992.
  • Hidden attic. Sealed for 60 years after 1920s flat conversion; reopened in 1985-88 with four dormers and a salvaged cedar staircase.
  • Flats to mansion. 1980s restoration stripped partitions, revived iron-lace verandahs and returned grandeur.
  • Price trail. Sold for $280k in 1989; $550k in 2012; $610k in 2018. Currently estimates peg it at $1.1m.
  • Street anchor. Stands at the middle of Denmark Hill, proving integrity—and a good story—still turn heads.

🔋 The Best Portable Power Station for Off-grid Camping

Just in case one of you is hunting for a portable power station, I spent Sunday down the rabbit hole and found a winner.

The EcoFlow River 2 Pro + its 220‑watt fold‑out panel jumps from empty to full in about 70 minutes when plugged in, or over a sunny lunch break on solar.

One charge easily refreshes: a pile of drone batteries (multiple times), every phone in camp, and keeps lights, tunes, and a small fan humming till sunrise.

I grabbed one for weekend trips to my Granite Belt block (I love flying the drone daily) and look forward to no longer having battery anxiety charging everything off my Hilux and small battery packs. This battery stuff has made ridiculous progress over the last 10 years it's worth a look if you camp or spend time off-grid.
