🏵️ Meet Dougleen - The Brick Home Hand-built Over 11 Years

  • What & where. Hand-built Arts & Crafts brick home at 67 Thorn Street, Ipswich.
  • Built. Owner-built by stonemason Frank Williams (1923 to c.1933). He made bricks, marble and plaster on site, with specialist trades assisting.
  • Craft. Handmade bricks, carved marble, and custom plaster friezes with Australian sportsmen and fauna.
  • Plan & size. Low-set, single storey, 3 bedrooms, on an 814 sqm block.
  • Timeline. Williams family c.1930 to 1947. Heritage-listed 1991. Sold $150k (2000) and $295k (2006). Opened 12 May 2018 for Great Houses of Ipswich.
  • Family footprint. Other Williams-family builds: Almondsbury (1880s), To-Me-Ree and 15 Macalister St (c.1910), 9 Bennett St (1930), Avonslea, 62 Thorn St (1933).
  • Significance. Rare interwar brick bungalow with high integrity. National Trust Ipswich Best Maintained award. Queensland Heritage Restorations 2016/17.

🏗️ 288-Unit Yamanto Townhouse Plan Unveiled
QPG has lodged plans for 188 two storey and 100 three storey townhouses across 14.5 hectares at 285–313 Warwick Road, Yamanto, retaining bushland on the western side of the site. Council will assess the high density scheme amid corridor population growth. View Development Application →

🌳 50 MW Battery Storage Proposed For Karrabin
An energy developer has applied for a code assessable (no third-party appeals) Material Change of Use to build a 50 megawatt battery energy storage system on rural land off Karrabin Rosewood Road. For scale: a typical four-hour design (~200 MWh) uses dozens of cabinet enclosures and occupies roughly 1–2 hectares (about 2.5–5 acres) including access and a small substation.
