🌰 The Chestnuts: At a Glance

  • Style. 1885 Gothic Revival brick cottage. Triple-brick. Attic and basement. On Denmark Hill.
  • School. Finishing school for local girls, 1885–1900. Name comes from Moreton Bay chestnut trees. Three still stand.
  • Work. Verandahs rebuilt and attic stair in the 1970s. Three-storey rear wing added mid-1990s.
  • Size. 519 m2 block. 4 bed. 2 bath.
  • Status. Local heritage since 1991. Great Houses tours in 2015 and 2019. Sold 2016 for $720,000.

🏛️ Council Extends Rates Deadline To 28 August
Ipswich City Council extended the July–September rates discount and due date to Thursday 28 August due to printing delays. The change affects all ratepayers who received notices late and won’t alter future quarters.

Ipswich Grammar sprinter Gout Gout ran a hand-timed 9.94 seconds in the 100 metres at a Queensland school meet. Hand timing means it’s not an official record, but it underscores elite form heading into spring.

🚧 Purga School Road Bridge Replacement Works About To Begin
Work is starting to replace the ageing single-lane Purga School Road bridge over Purga Creek as part of a $7.9m upgrade. Funding is $5m federal with $2.9m from council to improve safety and access.
