Penrhyn, 103 Limestone St: Slate-Roofed Brick Cottage with Wraparound Verandahs

Penrhyn is a compact brick cottage with a steep slate roof and verandahs that run right around all four sides. It is one of Ipswich’s few slate-roofed houses from the 1870s.

• Built. c. 1879 slate-roofed brick cottage on a 484 m² block on Limestone Street.
• The row. One of four side-by-side brick houses at 109, 107, 105 and 103 built as a matching group.
• Standout. Later roadworks lifted the street so high that the front verandah now sits below the footpath, giving the house a tucked-away feel.

🚍 Ipswich Bus Network Adds 1,198 Weekly Services

Translink has rolled out Stage 1 of the Ipswich bus improvement package, adding 1,198 extra weekly services plus four new routes and three upgraded routes across eastern Ipswich. Queensland has opened a 46 bed, $51.7 million residential alcohol and other drug rehabilitation and withdrawal service in Raceview, Ipswich, operated 24/7 by specialist provider Lives Lived Well. 🏛️ Teen Jailed 16 Years For Redbank Plains Murder

A 17 year old boy has been sentenced to 16 years' detention for murdering 70 year old grandmother Vyleen White during a carjacking at a Redbank Plains shopping centre in February 2024. He will be eligible for parole after 60 per cent of the term because Queensland's tougher youth murder laws started after the killing. ABC News →

🧬 Platypus DNA Detections Rise In Ipswich Urban Creeks

Ipswich City Council's latest environmental DNA survey found platypus genetic material in 12 of 40 water samples and possible traces in another five sites across Bundamba, Six Mile, Woogaroo, Opossum and Sandy creeks. 🚧 Hailstorm Forces Temporary Closure Of Workshops Rail Museum

Queensland Museum Rail Workshops in North Ipswich is temporarily closed after a 26 October hailstorm caused extensive damage to the louvred roof and nearby buildings.
