Merton (2 York Street): East Ipswich’s Near-Acre Victorian Queenslander

  • Address + land. 2 York Street, East Ipswich QLD 4305 — Lot 10 on RP89539, 3,891 m².
  • Build era. Built in the 1870s as a large timber Victorian-era Queenslander.
  • Early ownership. Land bought in 1854 by Pollet Cardew, then sold in 1864 to Ebenezer W. Hargreaves.
  • Railway cut. In 1871, part of the original holding was resumed for the Brisbane–Ipswich railway.
  • Later growth. The house was later expanded with two wings during the Pollet Loftus Cardew period.

🏟️ Buildcorp Awarded $41 Million North Ipswich Reserve Grandstand Contract

Ipswich City Council awarded Buildcorp the $41 million design-and-construct contract for a new western grandstand at North Ipswich Reserve, with operational works due August 2026 and completion targeted September 2027. 🚧 Ripley Road And Fischer Road Upgrade Moves Into Stage One

Stage 1 construction on the Ripley Road and Fischer Road Upgrade began in December 2025, upgrading Ripley Road between the Cunningham Highway and Monterea Road, backed by $73.6 million from the Residential Activation Fund. Ripley Road carries 22,000 vehicles daily and is forecast 40,000 by 2030, so Stage 1 widens the road and adds footpath, cycle and bus links. Watch video of project scope →

🎉 Council Confirms New Year's Eve Fireworks At Five Ipswich Sites

🌳 Woogaroo Forest Koala Petition Seeks Federal EPBC Scrutiny

A Change.org petition asking Environment Minister Murray Watt to assess four Woogaroo Forest developments under the EPBC Act and reject them has reached ~19,300 verified signatures.
