INSIDER #051 — The front yard pool on Brisbane Rd.

This week we're looking at the difference between Ipswich's 6,000+ Character Places and the 26 local homes on the Queensland Heritage Register. Plus if you've ever driven down Brisbane Rd and wondered about that house with the stone wall and chimney opposite Cameron Park, we finally looked into it. It was the first house in Ipswich to have a private swimming pool. And they put it in the front yard. On Brisbane Rd. All the details below. Catch ya round.

Introducing The Duce House... featuring Brisbane Rd’s front-yard pool

Right on Brisbane Rd at the border of East Ipswich and Booval sits the Duce House (88 Brisbane Rd).

Built c.1952 for Norm and Norma Duce, it did something Ipswich still talks about: a swimming pool in the front yard, facing the road.

Bold, very 1950s, and great!

More details

  • Land: 1,468 m² corner block on 2 lots, split off from the Elamang estate
  • House: 3 bed, 1 bath, unique semi-circle flower box
