Mad Hatters Biggest Morning Tea at Cooneana – Saturday 30 May, 11am to 1pm at Cooneana Heritage Centre in New Chum. The Ipswich Historical Society is raising funds for Cancer Council Queensland with tasty treats, raffles and a Mad Hats display, so bring your craziest hat along. $10 entry on the day, cash preferred. The Amazon MGM comedy Balls Up includes a Mark Wahlberg scene filmed at Ipswich Rail Workshops. Queensland attracted the shoot through its locations, incentives and crew base. Mayor Teresa Harding met Wahlberg during the 2024 filming. View scene →

🏭 Almost 900 Workers Evacuated After JBS Dinmore Ammonia Leak

A liquid ammonia leak at JBS Dinmore started about 12:30am on 14 May. Almost 900 workers were evacuated and five people went to hospital. The Dinmore plant is one of Ipswich's largest workplaces. See ABC News Story →

🪖 Ebbw Vale War Memorial Statue Vandalised After Anzac Day

Council workers found the 1918 Ebbw Vale War Memorial statue decapitated about 7:30am on 8 May. Its arm and rifle were also damaged. Police are investigating and council is assessing repairs. Read More At River 949 →

🎓 Ipswich Grammar Announces New Four-Level Boarding House

Ipswich Grammar announced the new four-level boarding house on 18 May. Construction is due to begin in Term 2, 2026, as the first IGS 175 Master Plan project. The school says it will open to boarders in 2028. Read The Announcement →
