INSIDER #072: Why Ipswich has 2

TOGETHER WITH

Let’s discover why Ipswich has Queensland’s 1st grammar school and 2 of the state’s 8. Then, take a look at this new Ipswich rain radar. Then, take a video tour of Karalee’s Bubble House. All below. Catch ya round.

Does Every Town Have Two?

What is a grammar school?

Is it a fancy name for an expensive private school?

Or something written into Queensland law?

Queensland has only 8 legal grammar schools. All are charities.

Ipswich has 2, giving the city 25% of the entire system.

A 9th cannot open unless Parliament changes the law.

The story began in 1860, when Queensland funded primary schools but required towns to raise money before it would help build secondary schools. Ipswich went first. And repeated the feat for its girls’ school nearly 30 years later.

🌧️ Your New Ipswich Rain Radar?

Do you hate scrolling through your weather app just to find the rain radar?

This new tool opens with Ipswich already front and centre.

Ipswich Insider built this rain radar for one reason: checking whether rain is moving towards Ipswich should not mean hunting through a general weather app.

  • Starts on Ipswich. The map opens with Ipswich already front and centre.
  • See all of South East Queensland. Pan and zoom to follow rain across the wider region.
  • Watch it move. Press play to cycle through the latest 40 minutes of radar imagery.

Let us know your feedback and I'll make improvements in real-time.
